Serbian Frictions; Turks Prepare for the Next War

  • By executive order, outgoing U.S. President William H. Taft established National Petroleum Reserve No. 2 (NPR-2), at the Buena Vista Hills in Kern County, California, south of Reserve No. 1.

The Times of London for Friday, 13th of December 1912 was an extraordinary 50-odd page survey of the entire world’s seaborne shipping, including a country-by-country account of the recent history of its development.  It would be impossible to cover the entire survey – though it marks a valuable historical account – but coverage of a few key countries is presented here relevant in the conditions that gave rise  to the First World War, as the relative decline of British shipping was a great source of “Imperial” concern.
